Rulers rule for recovery blades.
High Tech Problems, Low Tech Solutions
The following is a simple way to make up a recovery blade application tool. Although theres a bit of time involved to make this item, youll find its well worth while.
Take 2 plastic rulers and cut them to a length that you're happy with for the particular cartridge. Ours are 221mm (8.7 inches) long and we can use them on a range of cartridges. Weve also made up two varieties, one for mylar blades the other for poly blades.
Photo 1: Place double-sided adhesive tape on the flat side along the length of the first ruler approximately 6mm from the edge. Do the same on the other side of the same ruler. The thickness of the adhesive tape should be equal to the thickness of the recovery blade (either poly or mylar). You will need to put more than one layer to achieve the right thickness eg. mylar blades are round .o6mm thick so youll require about 4-5 layers per side to get the gapping right. The poly blades are about .2mm thick so they will require about 10-12 layers. The amount of layers used hinges on the thickness of the double-sided tape that you use. We use a pressure sensitive tape from 3M. The thickness, we think, is about .08mm.
Benefits: This simple device allows a one step installation. The recovery blade can be installed accurately, straight and with no distortion, 3 really important things if you and your customer want a happy, trouble free cartridge cycle.
